To Amber. Thanks for always being there for me. Jeff is yours. Don’t tell Liz.

  About This Book

Jeff and Ashlyn are stuck in the virgin zone. What’s that? Well, it’s when two people have been dating for several months, but they have yet to make it past first base. The longer it takes for one of them to make a move, the harder it is to just do it already.

But things are about to change.

Jeff has plans. So does Ashlyn. Mission: Drive each other crazy.

If it works, they’ll both get what they want this Valentine’s Day.

  Ashlyn

Soft lips pressed to mine, dragging me from deep sleep.

I didn’t have to open my eyes to know who it was. I knew his taste. I’d memorized the way his mouth moved when he kissed me. I recognized his fresh-smelling cologne. After all, I was the one to pick out the scent for him.

“Jeff,” I whispered as his kisses trailed down my jaw. “How did you get in here?”

  “Kayla gave me the key.”

Bless my roommate. She knew how much I wanted this. How much I needed Jeff to just make a freaking move already.

We’d been dating for six months, but we hadn’t gotten past first base yet.

Back in September, we were introduced through Kayla and her boyfriend Ezra. Jeff was quirky, flirty, and charismatic in a geeky way. He hadn’t hesitated to ask for my number and pressed for a first date immediately. And we had the best time. We went to dinner and a movie. Nothing out of the ordinary, but it was great because I was with him. The evening ended with a chaste kiss outside my dorm room.

Our second date had been more low key. We hung out in my dorm and talked for hours.

And then we just never stopped hanging out.

Jeff officially asked me to be his girlfriend a couple weeks after we met.

He was the perfect boyfriend. He paid me compliments, always texted when he said he would, and we had fun no matter what we were doing.

Everything was great, except for the fact that it seemed like he didn’t want to see me naked.

During our relationship, we’d held hands, cuddled, and made out. A lot. And don’t get me wrong, it was awesome. But I needed more.

I’d been trying to be patient with him. We were each other’s first everything. Of course I was nervous about losing my virginity, but I knew Jeff was the one.

  My one.

And I had no doubt that I was his.

  So what was the holdup?

It wasn’t like he was insecure about his dick or anything. I’d felt it through his pants before, and the guy was packing. Nothing to be ashamed of there.

Speaking of said dick, Jeff pushed my legs apart and settled his hips between them. His large bulge pressed against my center, just where I needed him.

  “Yesss,” I hissed out.

“Ashlyn. I need you so bad.” Jeff’s breath was hot next to my ear.

  “Need you, too.”

He rocked against me, and I moaned. If he did that for a few more minutes, I was willing to bet I could get off, but I wanted the real thing.

Finding his lips in the dark, I plunged my tongue into his mouth while I grappled with his pants. He was wearing gym shorts, but the elastic seemed to be made of unyielding steel. The damn thing wouldn’t budge.

“Take these off,” I demanded, then added, “Please,” because Jeff already teased me enough about being a bossy girl from the suburbs.

I wasn’t, really. It was just, sometimes when people first saw me, they looked at the long blond hair and red lipstick, and automatically thought I was a bitch.

Jeff let out a sexy chuckle, his hips grinding slowly, as his hand slipped under my T-shirt. His fingers skimmed up my stomach and over my ribs, until he grazed the underside of my breast.

“Wrong way, frat boy.” To hell with being polite. “Touch my clit.”

His hand started moving down. His fingertips bumped over my hip bone before slipping into my pajama shorts. My belly quivered as he made it to the trimmed patch of hair.

When his thick middle finger slid into my slick folds, excitement unlike anything I’d ever experienced made my heart speed up. It was happening. Finally.

Jeff found my throbbing opening. I ached for him to push inside, but he didn’t. He explored the area slowly, just like I always imagined he would while he was learning my body.

With surprising precision, he paused at my clit and pressed down. I whimpered. Being touched by him was amazing, but it still wasn’t enough.

  “More.”

Doing as I commanded, he circled the sensitive bud, and my back bowed off the bed.

  Suddenly, his weight was gone.

Startled, my body jerked and my eyes snapped open.

Blinding daylight streamed through the window and I glanced around my dorm room. Kayla’s bed was unslept in, her quilt tucked neatly around the mattress. My comforter, however, was a tangled mess. The hot pink material was twisted around my legs, like I’d been thrashing.

And the hand in my pants wasn’t Jeff’s—it was mine.

I’d been dreaming. It was all a dream.

  Damn it.

I was alone, and I was more turned on than I’d ever been in my life. My body was covered in a layer of sweat, my nipples could probably cut glass, and my pussy was still pulsing with the release that never happened.

I glanced at my clock. I didn’t have to get up for class for another thirty minutes.

Chewing my lip, I thought about my options. I could crawl out of bed, take a cold shower, and go to my watercolor course sexually frustrated. Again. And I could express that frustration in a painting of flower petals that resembled a closeup vagina. Again.

  Or.

I could just go ahead and take care of the situation my subconscious started.

My clit jumped under my fingers, obviously a fan of idea number two.

Well. I was already halfway there. Might as well finish the job myself, just like I’d been doing ever since I met the sexy, green-eyed, sandy-haired, cock-blocking virgin.

  Jeff

“I think I virgin zoned myself.”

“Huh?” Ezra looked over at me as I sat down on the bench outside the art building.

It was our typical meeting spot. I’d sat on this stone seat so often I was surprised my ass hadn’t made an imprint in the concrete.

Ezra and I met here every Friday for lunch after my economics class. And since Ashlyn was an art major
like him, I frequently hung out here hoping to catch her between classes.

“Virgin zoned,” I repeated, handing him one of the sandwiches I’d picked up on my way here. “A verb. It’s kind of like being stuck in the friend zone, only it’s with the person you’re dating. I feel like Ashlyn and I have waited so long to have sex that now I’m caught in this weird limbo, where we’ve gotten into a comfortable routine and I don’t know how to break it.”

“I’m lost. What kind of routine are you talking about?”

“Making out. Over the clothes touching. That’s about as far as we’ve gone, and we’ve been together for a long time.”

“Six months isn’t that long.” He took a bite of his Italian sub, and his next words came out garbled. “I was stuck in the friend zone for four years with Kayla.”

“Yeah, but if you knew she liked you liked you, wouldn’t you have done something about it sooner?”

“Probably. Maybe. I dunno.” He shook his head, causing some of his blond curls to flop over his forehead. “I was really shy in high school.”

He wasn’t joking about that. I used to be quiet and timid, too. College had helped us to come out of our shells. We went to the gym together a few times a week, and we’d both bulked up. Having super-hot girlfriends didn’t hurt.

Not to brag, but we were pretty popular on campus.

“Hey, guys.” A giggling group of girls walked by, waving as they checked us out.

All we gave them was a nod of acknowledgement, ignoring the way one of them lingered, like she was waiting for us to flirt.

They knew better. Everyone knew we were taken. McAdams was a private university, and sometimes the gossip here was worse than a small town.

I dug into my sandwich, loudly munching on turkey and lettuce, and the brunette finally gave up, awkwardly slinking away as she pouted.

I shook my head in disbelief.

Crazy pants. A year ago, that shit never would’ve happened. Girls didn’t hit on me in high school.

Sometimes I couldn’t believe Ashlyn liked a guy like me, but I had to admit her exterior didn’t match her insides. Blonde, tall, beautiful. Big blue eyes and ruby-red lips. I’d have been lying if I said I didn’t peg her for a snooty rich girl the first time I met her.

But she was just as much of a dork as me. We both liked sci-fi movies, comic books, and video games. We could talk about Marvel versus DC for hours.

Dating Ashlyn was like hanging out with the coolest dude I’d ever met. Only I wanted to fuck her.

Ashlyn and I had a lot more in common than our hobbies. We were only children from middle class families. We grew up in the suburbs of Ohio—her in the south and me in the north. Our birthdays were even close together. We’d turned nineteen the first week of December.

And we were both virgins. If I had anything to say about it, that’d be changing soon.

Yeah, my life was pretty good.

It’d be perfect if I could just get myself out of this rut.

“You coming to the Valentine’s thing at the frat house tonight?” I asked Ezra, even though I knew he’d say no.

Last fall, we were victims of a hazing incident with a fraternity. Honestly, it was my own fault for getting wrapped up in it. I blamed poor judgment and my own naivety for falling into the situation in the first place.

Ezra, too. That was where we met. He’d been hoping to join the same organization, but he was slightly smarter than me, and he dipped out. Following his lead, I left and ended up going with a different fraternity with guys who were awesome. Tau Delta was mostly full of band geeks and sci-fi nerds. There wasn’t a better place for me.

Unfortunately, the whole ordeal ruined Greek life for Ezra. Still, he was always welcome at our events, whether he was a member or not.

“Costume party. Famous couples throughout time.” Sweeping my hand through the air, I tried to convince him with a salesman-like tone.

“Nah. You know that’s not our thing. Kayla and I plan to stay in tonight. Order a pizza and watch a movie or something.”

“Can’t say I blame you. If Ashlyn and I were going at it like rabbits, I’d never wanna leave my room either.”

Ezra snorted out a laugh, because he couldn’t deny it. “So, who are you dressing up as? Let me guess… Barbie and Ken?”

“That was my suggestion, but Ash shot it down.”

“Woulda been easy,” he mused with a grin. “All she’d have to do is put on a dress and she’d be ready to go.”

“Truth.” Chuckling, I scratched at the scruff on my jaw.

As it was, the dudes in the house already gawked at Ashlyn every time she came around. They got all quiet and sweaty. It reminded me of the first episodes of The Big Bang Theory whenever Penny turned the guys into babbling starstruck fools.

Which was exactly why I was happy with the characters we decided on. “We’re going as Chewbacca and C-3PO.”

Ashlyn would be covered from head to toe. Hell, with the mask, some of the guys probably wouldn’t even know it was her.

Skeptical, Ezra’s face screwed up. “That’s a famous couple?”

  “According to Ashlyn.”

He was quiet for a few seconds before he shook his head. “No, man. You want her to jump your bones? That’s never gonna happen if you’re in a robot suit.”

  “Uh, I’m Chewbacca.”

  “Even worse.”

I couldn’t disagree with that. The drawback to dressing like a furry beast was the fact that it wasn’t sexy. At all.

“Should we get different costumes?” I wondered out loud.

Ezra canted his head to the side. “That’d be a start, but I think you’re gonna have to do more than just a costume switch.”

“It’s a little last-minute to change our minds, and Star Wars is her favorite movie.”

“So stick with Star Wars. Just go as someone else.” With a chuckle, he clapped me on the back.

He was right. Time to reconsider this. Fast.

Despite the fact that it was starting to snow, my palms got sweaty when I imagined making a move on Ashlyn.

What if I got too rough and hurt her? What if I came too soon? What if it was so bad for her that she broke up with me? These were the thoughts that ran through my mind whenever I got close to pressing for more.

Sometimes I hated the way my mind worked. How it presented every negative possibility instead of focusing on the most likely positive outcome.

Then there was the issue of bringing it up. I’d imagined dozens of scenarios, from simply dropping hints in a casual conversation, to giving a PowerPoint presentation with all the reasons why we should fuck.

But the latter was my analytical mind running the show. Giving Ashlyn a list of pros and cons wasn’t going to knock her socks off, literally or figuratively.

A strong gust of wind kicked up, and the white flurries started to come down harder as Ezra asked, “Haven’t you guys ever spent the night together?”

“Yeah. To sleep,” I emphasized. “I was trying to be respectful.”

“Nah, fuck that. I mean, that’s good and all, but Ashlyn’s obviously waiting for you to take control. Be assertive. Kayla loves it when I boss her around in the bedroom.”

  Now, there was an idea.

Assertive. Bossy. I could do that.

I needed to do something to show Ashlyn I wanted her.

I knew she wanted me, too. There were times when she fiddled with her keys for too long when we said goodbye, and sometimes she gave me some serious fuck-me eyes.

And I kept letting her down because I didn’t have the balls to take the cues.

Well, that stopped now, and I had the perfect plan. “Ezra?”

  “Yeah?”

“I hope you’re not busy this afternoon, because I need your help with something.”

  Ashlyn

Picking up the plastic pieces of my costume, I held them to my body, trying to figure out where all the parts went.

This thing was like a damn puzzle
, and I couldn’t find the instructions.

  “Whatcha doin’?”

I glanced over to see the dorm room door shutting behind Kayla. Her curly copper-colored hair was pulled into a messy ponytail, and her light brown skin was a little rosy from being out in the cold.

“Attempting to get dressed,” I replied, dropping the pieces to the bed with a frustrated huff. “What about you?”

Honestly, I was surprised to see her. Ever since she basically moved in with Ezra, she rarely came by our room. Sometimes I missed having a girl to talk to. It wasn’t like I could vent to Jeff about how horny I was.

“My parents said they mailed a package.” She looked around until I pointed at a small cardboard box under her bed.

“It came this morning. Maybe there’s a little something in there for me?” I gave her a hopeful smile.

  “Probably.” She laughed.

Kayla had two gay dads, and they were the coolest. If I ever needed fashion advice or a lawyer, they were the first guys I’d call. Plus, they often included presents for me in the care packages they sent to Kayla.

After she placed it on her desk, she cut it open with scissors and made a triumphant sound when she saw what was inside.

“What is it?” I asked. “Oh, is it those chocolates from France? Because I still think about those.”

“No.” Holding out her hands, she turned to me and said, “Okay, so don’t be mad…”

I narrowed my eyes. “What did you do?”

She blew out a breath. “Well, a week ago, when you told me about your costumes for the party, I sort of let it slip to my dads that you were going as a robot.”

“C-3PO,” I corrected, not understanding where this was going.

“Right. They thought it was a travesty.”

“What?” I gasped. “It’s cute. Jeff and I will be the only ones with this pairing.”

“You’re going to cover all this—” She waved a finger at the length of my body and my face before pointing at the costume on my bed. “—with that. Travesty. Plus,” she continued, “I know you want things to go further with Jeff.”
